What is a Giclée Print?
A giclée print is a high-quality, archival art reproduction made using professional inkjet technology, resulting in fine art with a high level of accuracy, vibrant color, and long-lasting durability. The term, from the French word for “spray,” refers to the specialized inkjet printers that use millions of tiny, precisely sprayed droplets of pigment-based ink. To qualify as a giclée, the print must be created using specific standards, including high-resolution images, pigment-based inks, and acid-free, archival paper or canvas.

The cost of a commission painting varies widely, depending on complexity and size. Other factors like materials, time, shipping, and complexity all influence the final price.
Things that effect price
- Size: Larger paintings require more time and materials, so the price
increases significantly with size. Many artists use a square inch
formula (e.g., a 16″x20″ painting at $2/square inch is $640). - Complexity: Detailed work, such as complex armor, multiple figures, or intricate backgrounds, will be more expensive than a simpler piece.
- Materials:
The cost of materials like high-quality canvas, oil paints, or other
supplies is added to the total price. Some artists charge a markup on
materials, such as cost plus 20%. - Time: The total time spent on the project, including preparation, creation, and administrative work, is factored into the price.
- Shipping and other costs:
The cost of shipping the finished artwork can be added to
the final cost.
